Blackberry puree is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy the sweet flavor of fresh blackberries when they are in season. This easy and delicious blackberry puree can be used on ice cream, yogurt, pancakes, smoothies, and co*cktails. It takes only minutes to make and you only need two ingredients.

Blackberry Puree (Easy No-Cook Recipe) (1)

Blackberry puree is my newest obsession and for good reason, it is so delicious! This simple puree takes just minutes and no cooking is required.

I love using this blackberry puree to top whipped cottage cheese, cottage cheese dip, ricotta pancakes, cheesecake bites , my Philadelphia cheesecake, or any dessert or breakfast that I am having after I make this. I even use it to make a quick bramble co*cktail when I am in the mood or entertaining.

It is a family favorite. You can also use this to add flavor to champagne or wine with an elegant meal with caramelized brie.

The possibilities are endless 🙂

Ingredients

Blackberry Puree (Easy No-Cook Recipe) (2)

You are only going to need 2 simple ingredients for this blackberry puree:

  • Fresh blackberries. I recommend 2 pints of blackberries because you do not get a lot from just one pint. This is totally up to you. Use one pint or two! You also want to make sure you are using fresh blackberries. If you have made my berry sauce or blueberry sauce from frozen berries you know I love frozen berry recipes but this is not one of those recipes 🙂
  • Sugar. The little bit of sugar just really brings out the sweetness of the blackberries. This is optional but I highly recommend it!

How to make blackberry puree

If you thought the ingredient list was easy, the steps to make this blackberry puree is just as simple. No cooking is required here!

  1. Rinse the blackberries. You want to make sure the blackberries are clean before blending them. Only rinse them under cold water.
  2. Place the berries in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  3. Add sugar and blend again.
  1. Pour the puree through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any seeds. You will need to push the puree through with a spatula or spoon.
  2. Transfer the puree to a container and refrigerate until ready to use.

This blackberry puree is technically a blackberry coulis since we are straining out the blackberry seeds at the end. The difference between a puree and a coulis is the straining of the seeds.

I am fine with calling this a puree but you can call this a Blackberry coulis if you prefer 🙂

How to use

  1. Blackberry Smoothie. I love swirling this blackberry puree into my smoothies during the summer months. Really good!
  2. I love adding it to my watermelon margaritas for an extra fruity flavor.
  3. Top Cheesecakes.
  4. Blackberry BBQ Sauce. I love flavored (fruit-flavored) BBQ sauces and I sometimes swap out the cherries in my cherry BBQ sauce for this blackberry puree and it is out of this world delicious.
  5. I top pancakes and brioche French toast with it.

There are so many ways to use pureed blackberries!

How to store

Once you make the puree, you can store it in a container covered for up to one week in the fridge. It usually does not last that long around here.

Pro Tips

Here are some tips for making this puree:

  • If you do not have a food processor to make blackberry puree, you can use a blender or a mortar and pestle. If using a mortar and pestle, just mash the berries really well and scrape it out into a fine mesh strainer to strain the seeds of the berries.
  • If you prefer to not have sugar in your blackberry puree, you can leave it out or use honey.

Should the recipe say 1/2 cup in the servings instead of 12?
