M&M’s Flower Cake Pops

Baking With M&M's: Flower Cake Pops Bouquet (1)

Ingredients M&M Flower Cake Pops:

1 Bag of Plain M&M’s
1 Bag of Peanut M&M’s
1 Tub of Frosting
1/2 cup Milk Chocolate Chips
1/2 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
1 Package of green paper straws
1 Box Chocolate Cake Mix (Cake pop recipe)
(For the cake mix I use 1 less egg and used milk instead of water for the perfect moist cake pops)

How to Make M&M Cake Pop Flowers:

1. First bake your cake pops according to your cake pop maker directions. Mine requested bake for 5 min, but I baked mine for 4 1/2 minutes. The cake pops turned out more moist. Once they are done, place them in the fridge or freezer to cool before decorating.

2. Now the fun part decorating those pops. Take one of the paper straws dip it in chocolate or frosting and then place the cake pop on the straw.

1. Melt the chocolate in a small jelly jar in the microwave at first 30 sec then stir. Place back in microwave for 11 sec and stir until fully melted. Tip: placing the chocolate chips in a small jelly jar makes it so easy to dip and cover the cake pops. Tip: Put the M&M’s in the freezer while baking the cake pops. This will help them set faster.

2. Cover the cake pop in chocolate. Start with the center and place six brown plain M&M’s flat with one in the middle and make a circle around.

3. The peanut M&M’s are a little heavier, so dip them in the chocolate and then attach them to around the outside of the cake pop. This is when the frozen M&M’s will set faster.

How to MakeRose Cake Pop:

1. Cover the cake pop in frosting. I used green frosting, but you could use red. I chose red M&M’s for red roses.

2. Start with the top of the cake pop and place plain M&M’s sideways, so they are sticking out a little.

3. Now create two circles of plain red M&M’s sticking them in sideways.

4. Place large red peanut M&M’s on the outside edge to create a rose.

1. Cover the cake pop in frosting. With the same technique as the roses.

2. Start with the top of the cake pop and place plain M&M’s sideways, so they are sticking out a little.

3. Place plain M&M’s on the outside for the petals. Choose colors of the bouquet flowers for the person whom you are giving the gift.

Now let’s put it all together in a cute little flower pot to give as a gift. I cut a large styrofoam ball to fit inside a plant pot. First I covered the ball in green frosting. Then I dyed some coconut green and sprinkled it on top to look like grass. I placed some brown plain M&M’s around the base to look like dirt. I dressed up the pot a little with some washi tape. Then push the straws with the flower cake pops into the styrofoam to make an arrangement of flower cake pops.

I highly recommend you make these flower cake pops as soon at you buy the M&M’s. I bought mine a few days before and the peanut M&M’s were gone before I started working on these cake pop flowers. I had to go back and get another bag. I now know M&M’s do not last long here. I found my bags of M&Ms on the end of the candy aisle at Walmart. There are so many varieties to choose from to make these flower cake pops.

FAQs

What not to do when making cake pops? ›

Don't make your cake balls too big or they may fall apart when you dip them. Do scoop and form only a few portions at a time. It'll help prevent your dough from drying out. Don't keep the unformed dough exposed to air (again, it will dry out).

How many cake pops does 1 box of cake mix make? ›

Your cake mix should be moist enough to shape into a large mound and keep its shape. Roll your cake mix into 1 inch balls using the palms of your hands. You should be able to get 35-40 cake balls from a single batch of cake mix. Pour one entire package of white chocolate candy melts into a microwave safe bowl.

Can you use chocolate chips instead of candy melts for cake pops? ›

To make the cake pops with regular ingredients, simply swap out the ingredients in the chocolate cake recipe with regular dairy ingredients, and do the same for the frosting. You can use any chocolate melts or chocolate chips for the coating.

Is it better to use candy melts or chocolate for cake pops? ›

While this gives them a glossy look without the need to temper, it results in a less rich and nuanced taste when compared to real chocolate. For a more grown-up and luxurious form of cake pop, you can use melted chocolate instead of candy melts.

Do you refrigerate cake pops after dipping? ›

Keep them in a cool and dry place on your counter, and they'll stay yummy for about a week. Throwing them in the fridge can extend their lifespan to 2 weeks or 1 month.

Why do you skip oil when making cake pops? ›

Make sure you pick a mix that calls for 3 eggs. Substitute the oil and water in the directions with 1 cup (250 ml) of milk and 1 stick (½ cup or 125 ml) of butter, melted. The use of oil in the cake will cause your cake pops to heavily ooze oil in certain instances and the sticks will yellow severely.

Why are my cake pops cracking after dipping? ›

If the cake is too cold and the icing is too warm when it is coated, the shell will crack from the difference in temperature. We know hot objects typically expand while cold objects shrink in size, so it makes sense that the spherical treat could split once it's settled and cooled down.

What is best to dip cake pops in? ›

You can dip the cake balls into pure white chocolate, which is what I prefer for best taste, but that stuff is pretty expensive. And you need a good amount for all 40 cake pops! You can use candy melts/candy coating instead.

Are cake pops cheaper than cupcakes? ›

Less expensive – Generally speaking, mini cupcakes are less expensive than cake pops because they can be produced in larger quantities and quicker.

Do you freeze cake pops before dipping? ›

Place each cake pop onto a baking sheet and transfer to the freezer for about 15- 20 minutes. Don't keep them there too long or they will become too cold and cause the hot melted candy to crack after you dip them. Thin out the candy melts before dipping– Meanwhile, melt the rest of the candy in a bowl.

How far in advance can I make cake pops? ›

If you have guests or you are making cake pops to send guests home with, it's important to give them fresh cake pops, because you can't be sure when they will eat it. You can make such one or two days in advance, but not longer than that. However, cake pops can be stored up to seven days if refrigerated.

How do you coat cake pops without sticks? ›

Even if you don't intend to use sticks, it can help to at least use a toothpick to avoid getting the white chocolate on your fingers. Dip each cake pop into the white chocolate until it's completely coated. Hold it over the bowl for a few seconds after dipping so excess chocolate can drip off.

Can you use icing instead of candy melts for cake pops? ›

Try using cream cheese frosting instead! Cream cheese frosting is great for red velvet cake pops, or can be used with your favorite dark chocolate cake mix.
